July 5, 2013 — Mills House Hotel General Manager John Edwards today officially withdrew from the race to seek the Democratic nomination for State Senate District 42 in Charleston and Dorchester Counties. Edwards cited personal and family reasons for his decision.
“For me family always comes first and this just isn’t the right time for me to be a candidate for office,” Edwards said.
Edwards also announced his strong endorsement for local attorney Marlon Kimpson.
“Marlon is an outstanding candidate who will serve this district very well. He’s been fighting for people in this area for a long time. In the State Senate he’ll be the fighter we need for better schools, expanded health care, and good jobs,” Edwards said.
Kimpson said he respects Edwards’s decision to withdraw from the race and welcomes his support.
“John is highly thought of in the business community. He’s a devoted family man and an all-around good person. I’m delighted to have his support and look forward to working with him,” Kimpson said.
