I hope this note finds you and your family safe and sound.
The weather conditions for last several days have had a tremendous impact on South Carolina’s highways, roads, and bridges. Sunshine and weather clearing is expected today, but please heed all warnings before deciding whether to drive. I’ve indicated numerous times on social media that is very important to document any and all damage to your home and personal property. This will be vitally important when you prepare to file a claim with your homeowners and/or flood insurance companies. Also as you may know, President Obama declared South Carolina a disaster area. Governor Haley has asked for federal assistance for Berkeley, Charleston, Clarendon, Dorchester, Georgetown, Horry, Lexington, Orangeburg, Richland, Sumter, and Williamsburg counties, and we are expecting her to expand this request to the other affected counties.
I’m informed that residents and business owners who suffered losses in the designated counties can begin applying for assistance Tuesday by registering online at DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 1-800-621-3362 or 1-800-462-7585 for the hearing and speech impaired.
Finally, if you need any assistance, please do not hesitate my Senate office at 803-212-6056.
Senator Marlon Kimpson
