Marlon Kimpson

Marlon Kimpson

Marlon Kimpson has dedicated much of his life to fighting for those who’ve been wronged by corporations and organizations that put profits over people.

As a member attorney with Motley Rice LLC, Marlon has represented a variety of clients including asbestos workers injured by occupational disease, employees and investors whose retirement funds have diminished due to fraud, families devastated by transportation accidents, and students whose civil and human rights were violated.

As a Senator in the South Carolina General Assembly, Marlon Kimpson will fight with this same level of tenacity and commitment to enact laws to improve the health, education and economic well-being of the residents of Senate District 42 and all South Carolinians.

Marlon gives great credit to his parents for teaching him the importance of giving back to the community. His father, Milton, the son of a sharecropper in Calhoun County, South Carolina, rose to become an educator, community leader, and proudly served in the cabinet of Governor Dick Riley. His mother, Wilhelmina, served as a public school teacher and administrator for more than 40 years. Marlon was also inspired by his work as a law clerk for the late Matthew J. Perry, civil rights icon and the first African-American United States District Court judge appointed in South Carolina.

Marlon is active in the community, currently serving as Chair of the Closing the Gap in Healthcare Scholarships for African-American Students at MUSC. He formerly served on the Carolina Youth Development Center Board and the Charleston Trident Urban League Board.

Marlon graduated from Morehouse College and received his J.D. from the University of South Carolina Law School.

Marlon and his wife, Kimberlyn Davis Kimpson, are the proud parents of their newborn daughter, Marleigh.
